About the event
There are songs that strive for something just out of reach beauty that overwhelms, love that remains unanswered, and hope quietly held against the darkness. This evening brings two song traditions into dialogue, each shaped by that same longing. Franz Schubert's Lieder have long been regarded as some of the most intimate music ever composed for the voice. In pieces like Die Allmacht, Ganymed, and Der Atlas, the human voice becomes a vessel for a full range of emotions awe, yearning, surrender. His songs do not resolve as much as they breathe. Alongside these, the program features a set of beloved Kundiman, Filipino art songs rooted in the same emotional landscape. Pakiusap, Biting Marikit, and Kundiman 86 carry generations of emotion in their melodies: devotion, longing, and a tenderness that does not demand reciprocation. Tenor Lemuel Cuento brings both repertoires to life.
